In order to address the demands of livestock farmers, entrepreneurs, businessmen and professionals and to specialize the animal service program by focusing on the abundant potential of livestock farming in Karnali Province, the Directorate of Livestock and Fisheries Development under the Ministry of Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives, Karnali Province was established by the decision of the Government of Nepal dated 2075 In accordance with the decision of Karnali Province Council of Ministers dated 2076/06/06 regarding the establishment and operation of Bhadra 27, the establishment of this Animal Development Directorate dated 2076/07/03 under the organizational structure under the name of Directorate of Livestock Development to see the work of Animal Hospital and Animal Service Office Surkhet as well. It has been operated This directorate has been coordinating between the 9 animal hospitals and animal service offices in Karnali province and other provincial, local and federal offices related to animal services in planning, supervising, monitoring and evaluating all the programs related to animal development in the province.

 

Purpose:

 1. To increase the production and productivity of livestock and animal products
2. By commercializing traditional and subsistence animal husbandry, making Karnali province self-sufficient in production and consumption of animal and poultry products (milk, dairy products, meat, eggs) and eliminating malnutrition and supporting food and nutrition security and making livestock and poultry products targeted.
3. To provide services such as technical services, advanced breeds, feed and feed, animal health services, easy loans and animal insurance to livestock producers, communities, cooperative organizations and entrepreneurs and to actively cooperate with the private sector in the work of commercial animal husbandry, resource development and market management.
4. To create more employment opportunities by encouraging livestock production, establishment of livestock industry and livestock trade.
5. Determining, improving and regulating the quality of materials related to livestock industry business
6. Identification, conservation, promotion and development of endangered species and breeds of animals.
7. To make the field of livestock development based on the latest research, equipped, specialized, result-oriented and competitive.
8. Emphasis on organic farming through animal husbandry

 

Scheme:

  1. Emphasis on commercial production of potential crops by identifying specific crop areas based on the potential of the specific location.

 

2. To promote the development of agricultural technologies with the participation of agricultural entrepreneurs, private sector, research centers, agricultural universities and to develop and expand resource centers.

 

3. Collecting, analyzing and distributing agricultural price and market information as well as developing the necessary infrastructure for market management.

 

4. By connecting agricultural production with agro-based industry, keeping parallel between log production and industry.

 

5. Conducting production programs that help in crop diversification, commercialization, business promotion by making maximum use of land use.

 

6. Giving priority to intensive crop production in irrigated areas, small irrigation, and utilization of water resources in agricultural productive areas.

 

7. Conducting agricultural development programs targeting the upliftment of backward farmers and women.

 

8. Emphasizing the development and expansion of agricultural tourism.

 

9. To promote conservation, promotion and use of local, indigenous, endangered crops.

 

10. Emphasizing the implementation of plans and programs for the utilization of fallow land by discouraging the trend of keeping arable land fallow.

 

11. Emphasis on the adoption of technology development, follow-up, adoption, reduction of losses during production and storage in the production, processing, storage and distribution system of agricultural produce.

 

Scope:

    Formulating and implementing necessary policies and business plans for the development and expansion of agricultural crops/goods.

 

  Conducting special programs to uplift marginalized farming communities at the provincial level.

  Collecting and updating data related to agriculture at the provincial level.

  To support the provincial government by regularly monitoring the supply status of agricultural materials such as fertilizers and seeds at the provincial level.

 

  Formulating and implementing policies related to soil improvement at the provincial level.

 

  Prepare a soil fertility map at the state level and take necessary actions to improve the fertility based on it.

 

  Increasing access to soil testing services and providing SOIL HEALTH CARD.

 

  To arrange quality resource seed production and transmission at the provincial level.

 

  To control the quality of agricultural materials including fertilizers and seeds at the provincial level.

 

  Conducting programs for germplasm conservation, promotion and ethnic registration of endangered and neglected crops.

 

  Conducting promotional programs for auxiliary crops, local, endangered and neglected crops at the provincial level and conducting special programs to increase the consumption of such crops and improve eating habits.

 

  To play an effective role in ensuring the rights of plant breeders and farmers at the provincial level.

 

  Monitoring and analyzing the state of food security and supporting the provincial government.

 

  From the point of view of food security, identify and develop and promote important crops/items.

 

  Formulate and implement appropriate policies related to crop protection and commercial pests at the provincial level.

 

  Making necessary arrangements for the operation of beekeeping, sericulture, mushroom production programs based on specific locations.

 

  Formulate and implement necessary policies, plans and standards for postharvest management at the provincial level.

 

  To promote agricultural mechanization at the provincial level.
